Post modernism is a cultural movement that distrusts all established philosophies and frequently experiments with the medium it is presented in.

2) What did media theorist and Semiotician Roland Barthes suggest in his essay 'The Death of the Author'?

He said that a writers opinion/interpretation/intention of their work is no more valid than the readers which suggests he believes readers should be free to interpret a text in any way they believe to be right.

3) What is metatextuality?

Metatextuality is where a text draws attention to the fact it is a text.This reminds the reader what their consuming has been constructed.

4) What is the repeated phrase on the cartoon on postmodernism on page 28?

Post modernism is a cultural movement.

5) How does postmodernism link to media representations and reality?

Postmodernism links to representation and reality as it brings light to the medias ability to distort reality and cause viewers confusion trying to figure out if what their consuming is real or if its only a small part of a bigger story.

1) How does the music video for Ghost Town incorporate elements of postmodernism?

Ghost town incorporates many elements of postmodernism such as:
Pastiche and parody - the video has some aspects of music video but seems to be a parody of music videos of the time which were often upbeat and happy whereas ghost town was gloomy and featured an empty city setting.
Mixing of low and high cultures - they use the popular music genre of ska to make political statements.
Confusion of time and space - whole thing is set in a small car driving around aimlessly for an unknown period of time 


2) What film genres are alluded to in the music video for Ghost Town? Which scenes in particular created these links?

The film genres alluded to are horror (blank expressions of band members, the eerie shadows in alleys and the frantic screams) and film noir (the lowkey lighting throughout the video and grainy camera quality)

3) How does Old Town Road use postmodern elements in its music video?

Confusion of time/space: time travel from western world to modern 
Parody: horse racing car and other comedic moments featuring comedian Chris rock 
Bricolage: mixing old western style visuals with modern music 


4) How does the Old Town Road music video reflect technological convergence and modern digital culture?  

The video was promoted across multiple different platforms mainly through user generated content such as the yeehaw challenge which boosted its popularity.

5) What do YOU think Lil Nas X was trying to say about reality and American culture in the music video for Old Town Road?

I believe Lil Nas X wanted to challenge traditional stereotypes of masculinity and within music as he was creating music within a genre which is dominated by white men while also subverting from the genres conventions by creating a parody of a classic western and mixing in hip hop music video conventions to create a new hybrid genre.

10. Cinematography Practical

In my cinematography practical ‘Glimpse’ I used cinematography and other aspects of media that we’ve learnt to build a narrative about a man walking somewhere he shouldn’t be and he is then stalked and hunted by a mysterious non-human killer. I used cinematography to build tension and create an eerie atmosphere by using pov shots to make the audience feel as though they’re the ones fighting by letting them see through the eyes of the characters.
