10. Cinematography Practical

In my cinematography practical ‘Glimpse’ I used cinematography and other aspects of media that we’ve learnt to build a narrative about a man walking somewhere he shouldn’t be and he is then stalked and hunted by a mysterious non-human killer. I used cinematography to build tension and create an eerie atmosphere by using pov shots to make the audience feel as though they’re the ones fighting by letting them see through the eyes of the characters. Shot List: Establishing/Extreme Long Shot - show setting  Very long shot - Main character walks into frame  High angle long shot - character continues walking off screen low angle long shot - shows power of antagonist character medium long shot medium shot - more detail of antagonist  Long shot  Long shot zooms in to medium close up - shows characters expression/feeling Long shot pan - character runs away  Big close up - show what character is looking at/afraid of long shot - character runs away two shot - antagonist cat...

8. Sound analysis

  In this scene from 'Full Metal Jacket' we can hear the diegetic sound such as the gun shots, tanks firing and the dialogue between the soldiers. We can also hear a contrapuntal sound track which was added post production making it non diegetic. The non diegetic sound is contrapuntal because the music used is upbeat and almost something you'd expect to hear in a cartoon whereas the scene is of the war between US and Vietnam which is full of violence and death meaning we wouldn't expect to hear the song 'Surfing Bird' a song people use to dance to. We also have a subtle sound bridge where we hear the machine gun firing before we see the man shooting it on top of the tank as the camera slowly pans towards it.

7. Practical assignment: parallel and contrapuntal sound video

  In my work i used the song 'cant stop the feeling' by Justin Timberlake which is a happy, upbeat song which I believe works well with the parallel part of my work where I used images of funny/cute babies which are meant to connote the joy of new life. To contrast this, I used images of graves which are meant to be sad and this is contrapuntal because it  doesn't match the happy vibe of the song.

Top lighting What effects are created by the lighting in the image?     Lighting creates sense of mystery as it makes the background dark and only lights up parts of her face.   High or low-key lighting? 5. Mise-en-scene video feedback and learner response

  Teacher feedback: WWW:  Script is in correct font Used original soundtrack   Good audio editing Use of freeze frame   Good post production Props  Makeup  Cinematography Accents EBI: More Costumes      More fake blood  Class feedback: Overall the feedback tells me that my use of makeup was good but could be improved by adding more and so could my use of costumes. It also tells me that my editing and sound track was good. Some actors still had on school lanyards which impacted the accuracy of the scene.  Self assessment:  I believe my script and shot list were used well however my mine en scene planning could've been better and I could've improved on the costumes or lighting aspects of my recreation. In the future In the future I could improve my audio quality by using microphones and I could also improve my cinematography as it was pointed out that my camerawork was shaky in some parts by using a phone stand to ensur...
